UAV Operations Manager

To support our company growth in developing UAV technology for conservation, we are looking for a UAV Operations Manager who will plan and lead the UAV services with our innovative conservation technology. This includes world-leading conservation projects both in NZ and internationally in French Polynesia and Galapagos. This full-time position is based at Envico’s R&D premises in Mount Maunganui, Tauranga.

The UAV Operations Manager role covers a broad range of responsibilities that will help grow our services in conservation. This includes further developing the operations team for completing drone services in the biosecurity and biodiversity sectors.


  • Plan, coordinate and manage the operations of our UAV services for conservation projects in NZ and abroad.

  • Create flight missions and manage project preparations.

  • Pilot the UAV platforms, predominantly heavy-lift multirotor (>25kg), but also fixed wing platforms and some small multirotor platforms.

  • Grow an operational team of drone pilots and support staff to support company growth.

  • Establish new operating procedures and efficient processes.

  • Interact with potential clients to support business development.

  • Coordinate and review flight approvals for UAV flight testing, operations and demonstrations.

  • Complete project reports and flight data review on GIS.

  • Manage project budgets and expenses.

  • Coordinate UAV maintenance with engineering team.

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field.

  • Current Part 141 issued Part 102 Pilot Qualification or Operational Currency Assessment

  • Full NZ drivers licence for manual vehicle


  • Minimum 2 years of experience in management of UAV flight operations in a CAA Part 102 capacity or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role.

  • Extensive experience flying heavy-lift multirotor UAV platforms, in manual and pre-programmed missions.

  • Proficient with Mission Planner flight software (essential)

  • Experience with various other flight software (desired)

  • Proficient with ESRI ArcGIS for creating flight data maps.

  • Technical hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical aptitude.

Aerospace Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Aerospace Mechanical Design Engineer who can assist in our unmanned helicopter development program. This full-time position is based at Envico’s R&D premises in Mount Maunganui, Tauranga. The project requires an Engineer who has a depth of knowledge yet is highly proactive and a self-starter.

As a minimum, successful candidates will have:

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

  • 5 years’ experience in aircraft design.

  • Experienced in helicopter design and/or testing.

  • Highly proactive and able to work autonomously.

  • Highly capable in technical hands-on work.

  • Excellent skills in CAD 3D modelling.

Preferable skills include:

  • Experience with UAV/RPAS/drones

  • Experience with ultralight or small helicopters.

  • Experience with flight testing.

UAV Control Systems Engineer

We are looking for a UAV Control Systems Engineer who can assist with our unmanned helicopters programme. The Engineer will be required to develop control systems on the UAVs, assist in test flights, conduct pre-flight testing and post flight analysis.  

This role would be a full-time position based at Envico's premises in Mount Maunganui, Tauranga.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar engineering field.

  • Experience building and programming rotary UAVs.

  • Experience flying UAVs.

  • Experience with various autopilot software.

  • Good servo knowledge and skill in programming.

  • Ability to work independently as well as be a good team player.

  • Ability to think creatively and problem solve.
